JULIAN J. COLLINS- PRESIDENT/CEO
Julian oversees IDEA Drilling, Marcus & Marcus Drilling, and Minex Surveying Services, which have locations in Virginia, MN, Coeur D’Alene, ID, and Elko, NV respectively, and a fleet of 30 drill rigs.
Collins brings to IDEA Drilling 18 years of drilling services experience. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, with a Masters in Business Administration.

DICK & PAM BACKSTROM- PARTNERS
Dick and Pam founded IDEA Drilling in 1997 and have been in the core drilling industry for 47 years. In the early 1970’s Dick held the role of Managing Director of Longyear do Brazil. Later in 1980 Dick and Pam founded Minex, a core drilling products company. The Backstrom’s created even more opportunities by purchasing Fausett Diamond Drilling in 1990; operating as Northwest Drilling and becoming the principal underground contractor in Nevada. In 2015, Marcus & Marcus Drilling out of Nevada was purchased, adding even more value to the IDEA Drilling services. Also in 2015, Dick was awarded the first “Ernie Lehmann Award” from Mining Minnesota for his contributions to non-ferrous mineral development in Minnesota.

MARK PORTER- VICE-PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS
Mark has over 25 years of experience working in the drilling industry. He has been a field technician, driller, foreman, field supervisor, operations manager, and now serves as IDEA Drilling’s Vice-President of Operations. Mark is a respected leader and problem solver who uses his experience to manage all of IDEA’s operations safely and efficiently. Mark manages all operations from the initial client interaction, all the way through project completion.
Mark holds a Monitoring Well License through the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). He is also a veteran of the United States Navy having served in Operation Desert Storm.
RICK MARCUS- VICE PRESIDENT OF WESTERN DIVISION/OPERATIONS
Rick has over 30 years of experience in the diamond core drilling industry. Rick started his career in the field on the drill site learning first hand all the aspects of mineral exploration, core drilling, engineering and environmental projects. In 1992 Rick started his own company called Marcus & Marcus Drilling, where they provided drilling services for mineral exploration in difficult areas, environmental projects, and geotechnical investigations. Since then Rick and his crews have completed many helicopter job programs for clients utilizing light weight flyable rigs. His success in these job programs comes from the experience gained with aircraft while in the Army Air Corps in his tour in Southeast Asia. Rick has always proven to be vigilant when it comes to safety and training, and is experienced at working with the local regulatory agencies.
T.J. GREEN- MANAGER, NEVADA OPERATIONS
TJ Green assumed the responsibility as Manager of Nevada Operations for IDEA Drilling, bringing with him 23 years of proven expertise in the core drilling industry. Mr. Green is primarily overseeing operations for underground and surface core drilling in the Nevada/Western US regions. TJ specializes in difficult access and challenging formations. His primary objective is providing clients with cost saving techniques and methods to reduce overall project costs and time.
MAX MOTLEY, CSP- MANAGER, SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT
Max is responsible for the design, monitoring, tracking, and reporting for all of IDEA Drilling’s Safety, Health, and Environmental Systems. He has been instrumental in helping IDEA Drilling strengthen their safety systems, programs, customized training, and hiring processes.
Max holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety from the University of Minnesota-Duluth; and is a Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) Certified Trainer. He also holds the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
